The main difference is flexibility. On a
Skilled Worker visa, you are tied to your
sponsor. On a Scale-Up visa, you only need a
sponsor for the first 6 months. After that,
you can change jobs without needing a new sponsor.
If you change employer during the first 6 months, you must apply to update your visa first.
The initial visa is granted for 2 years. You can apply to extend it for another 3 years, provided you meet the salary requirements earned during your initial stay.
To extend, you do not need a sponsor, but you must meet the Home Office’s PAYE earning test for at least half of your permission. The required earning level depends on when your CoS was issued (and whether you’ve extended before). Self-employed earnings do not count.
